Knights, Barons cagers tied for D-IV lead with 1 game left

The race for top honors in the Oakland Activities Association Division IV boys basketball standings will go down to the wire for Bloomfield Hills district rivals Lahser and Andover.

Both teams won clutch games Tuesday night and remain atop the D-IV standings with 8-3 records. Lahser defeated Farmington, 54-44, and Andover easily stopped Hazel Park, 84-67.

Each team plays its final regular-season game on the road Friday - Lahser at Ferndale and Andover at Seaholm. Farmington is third in the OAA D-IV standings with a 7-4 record.

LAHSER 54, FARMINGTON 44: Senior Karl Finley poured in a game-high 20 points and collected five steals and teammate Julian Sykes contributed 10 points and hauled down eight rebounds as Lahser improved to 8-3 in league play and 12-7 overall.

Farmington, which fell to 7-4 in OAA D-IV and 8-11 overall, got 14 points from senior Harvey Martin. Farmington hosts Royal Oak Friday.

ANDOVER 84, HAZEL PARK 67: Cameron Bell scored 16 points and Jason Howes and JC White added 15 apiece as Bloomfield Hills Andover improved to 8-3 in league play and 12-7 overall.

Hazel Park dropped to 4-7 in league play and 7-12 overall.

ROYAL OAK 54, SEAHOLM 46: A sluggish first-half Tuesday spelled trouble for Birmingham Seaholm as the Maples dropped this OAA Division IV matchup to host Royal Oak.

The Maples managed just 17 points over the first two periods and trailed by a 28-17 count at the break. They trimmed the deficit to 41-33 after three, but could get no closer as they dropped to 4-7 in league play and 6-13 overall. Royal Oak improved to 6-5 in OAA D-IV and 7-12 overall.

Senior Craig Ritsema and freshman Richaud Pack each scored 18 points to top Seaholm. The 18 by Pack gave him 111 points for the season and moved him to No. 1 overall in freshman scoring at Seaholm.

Senior Nick West scored 16 points and hauled down 17 rebounds to pace Royal Oak.

Seaholm's regular season slate will come to a close Friday at home against Andover.

COUNTRY DAY 68, DET. CONSORTIUM 58: Detroit Country Day built a double-digit lead at halftime Tuesday evening and held on over the final 16 minutes of play to score this hard-fought triumph over Detroit Consortium Prep.

Senior guard Darryl Nobles led three Yellow Jackets in double figures with 15 points. He also grabbed eight rebounds.

Senior Clayton Beard followed with 13 points, including a perfect 9-9 performance at the charity stripe, and junior Jonas Gray netted 10.

Sophomore center DaShonte Riley collected five blocks and junior guard Darnell Brown dished off a team-high five assists as the Yellow Jackets improved to 13-6 with only a home game Friday against Grosse Pointe North left on the regular-season schedule.

Senior DaJuan Staples led Consortium (10-8) with 15 points and Cary Worsham bagged 13.

NORTHWEST 46, ROEPER 44 (OT): Senior Jeff Beauregard scored 21 points Tuesday night as Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest (8-11) outlasted Birmingham Roeper in overtime.

Ashton Costello scored 11 points and Jordan Robinson added 10 as Roeper dropped to 7-10 on the season.
