Cardinal Lead Slips as Stanford Falls in Overtime, 83-79

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Nick Young scored 26 points, Lodrick Stewart made two of his three baskets in overtime, and Southern California rallied to beat Stanford 83-79 Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the Pac-10 tournament.

The Trojans rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit to force overtime, and never trailed in the five-minute extra period.

Gabe Pruitt added 17 points, Taj Gibson had 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Dwight Lewis scored 10 for the third-seeded Trojans (22-11), who won their first Pac-10 tournament game since 2004.

Anthony Goods led Stanford (18-12) with 19 points and five assists. Freshman Landry Fields scored a career-high 15 points and Fred Washington added 12 for the sixth-seeded Cardinal.

USC faces the winner of Thursday night's Washington-Washington State game in Friday night's semifinals. No. 16 Oregon and California meet in the opening semifinal matchup. The fourth-seeded Ducks advanced by beating fifth-seeded Arizona 69-50, and the eighth-seeded Golden Bears upset top-seeded UCLA 76-69 in overtime.

Stewart, USC's second-leading scorer, made a short jumper for the first points in overtime, and the Trojans led the rest of the way.

Two foul shots by Young with 1:38 remaining made it 74-71, but Brook Lopez's dunk 18 seconds later drew Stanford within one point. A basket by Stewart and a steal and layup by Pruitt clinched the victory. Goods and Fields made 3-pointers in the final five seconds to account for the final margin.

Robin Lopez made two of his three baskets to give Stanford a four-point lead with 51 seconds remaining in the second half. But Young made two free throws with 39 seconds left and a short jumper with 10.6 seconds to go, forcing the overtime.

Gibson blocked Goods' jumper in the lane in the final seconds.

Stanford led 52-41 before Pruitt scored seven points during a 10-2 run that trimmed the Cardinal's lead to 54-51.

The Cardinal scored four points before Daniel Hackett and Pruitt made 3-pointers during a 10-1 spurt that put the Trojans ahead 61-59.

Neither team led by more than four points after that until USC scored seven straight in overtime for an eight-point lead.

USC scored the game's first six points before Goods entered the game for the first time, and the sophomore point guard scored his team's first five points. Goods sat out his team's previous six games with a sprained left ankle.

The Trojans led by as many as seven before Goods and Fields scored five each during a 12-2 run that put Stanford ahead 28-22. The Trojans drew within three before the Cardinal outscored them 12-4 to finish the first half for a 42-31 lead.

Fields, who entered averaging 3.6 points, scored 10 in the first half to help pick up the slack for Lawrence Hill, an all-conference forward who was held scoreless in the opening 20 minutes.

Hill, averaging 16.3 points, shot 1-of-7 for three points, and was helped off the court due to an injured right leg with 3:03 left in overtime
