Bethel College may have gotten a steal
Joe Welch, Stevensville-Lakeshore's 6-foot-8 senior, had some college coaches dong a double take Friday when they found out he had signed with Bethel, an NAIA school in Indiana. Agile around the basket, persistent even when Country Day's DaShonte Riley was throwing shots in the Class B semifinal, Welch is a stronger, more confident player than he was in the AAU season. One MAC coach said he could play in that league, and a Big Ten coach said Welch was a DI player.
