Riley the next Country Day great
Birmingham Country Day has now won seven state championships, after beating East Grand Rapids 66-61 for the Class B title. The first six came with an NBA lottery pick in the lineup, either Chris Webber or Shane Battier.
DaShonte Riley, Country Day's 6-foot-11 sophomore center, may be the next Yellow Jacket headed to the league. He blocked five shots against East Grand Rapids, and five more the night before against Stevensville-Lakehore. While DaShonte Riley occasionally got drawn out of position away from the hoop, more likely he was defending the rim and changing the other team's offense.
DaShonte Riley is further behind on the other end of the floor, but is always good for some man-sized dunks. He's been compared to a young Dwight Howard, and did nothing to discourage those comparisons this weekend.
