Don't sleep on Kelvin Grady
Kelvin Grady, an East Grand Rapids senior, might not have the national ranking of an Alex Legion or Corperryale Harris, but will be an integral part of Michigan's future backcourt provided the trio sticks together when U-M brings in its new coach.
Grady has been very impressive as a floor general and leader during his two games at the Breslin Center. His quickness is unmatched and his dynamic handles and passing have energized EGR. He makes plays at 110 percent speed. He gets out and defends, too, and grasps team defense. Often, he trades the glitz and flash for the fundamentally sound pass or shot.
He might not be a game-changing scorer, but will easily fill a pass-first role in college. He said he prefers getting his teammates involved and setting others up first, then looking for his shot. Teams can never have too many of these players. He'll add depth and toughness. He's a definite upgrade over Jerret Smith. He'll be a big factor in Michigan's resurgence.
It's not like he's not a capable scorer, either. Grady scored 13 (2-of-3 3-pointers) in the semifinal win over Stevensville Lakeshore and has 19 with 5 minutes left in the final. He just nailed a big 3-pointer from the left wing to pull EGR in front of Detroit Country Day, 56-54.
Also impressive: EGR's DeMarcus Grady - he's headed to Northern Illinois to play football - and the raw potential, as always, of 6-10 Country Day sophomore DaShonte Riley.
