Donnavan Kirk makes oral commitment to Miami (Fla.)
The Atlantic Coast Conference has lured one local basketball talent southward.
Birmingham Detroit Country Day junior power forward Donnavan Kirk has made an oral commitment to Miami (Fla.) for the Class of 2009. The opportunity to play in one of college basketball's most storied conferences was a major draw.
"He sees Miami as an up-and-coming team in the ACC," Country Day coach Kurt Keener said Thursday.
The 6-foot-8 Kirk, who also plays for AAU team The Family, made an unofficial visit earlier this year to Miami. He also was considering Michigan State, Southern Cal, Xavier and South Florida.
Kirk, who transferred to Country Day from Pontiac Notre Dame Prep this past season, averaged 10.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and two blocked shots per game for the Yellowjackets. Transfer rules required him to sit out the first semester.
