BOYS BASKETBALL RESULTS
DIVINE CHILD 54, ST. MARY’S 52: The host Eaglets carried a two-point edge into the final quarter of Friday’s contest, 40-38, but the Falcons rallied to remain unbeaten on the season. Divine Child improved to 9-0 overall, 3-0 in the Catholic League Central Division. St. Mary’s is 6-2, 3-1. Junior guard Dion Sims led all scorers for St. Mary’s with 26 points while senior center Davide Curletti added 15. Anthony Manno scored 18 and Matt Esters 15 for Divine Child.
The Eaglets return to the court Tuesday against visiting Flint Powers Catholic.
HARPER WOODS 51, CLAWSON 43: Quentin Lewis scored 14 points Friday to lead Harper Woods to a Metro Conference victory. Sophomore forward Garrett Matthews scored 11 for Clawson. The Trojans dropped to 3-5 overall, 0-2 in Metro play, while Harper Woods improved to 5-3, 2-0.
WEST BLOOMFIELD 53, GROVES 51: Visiting Groves was highly competitive but fell just short at West Bloomfield Friday. Deontae Pannell led the Falcons with 19 points.
OAK PARK 81, LAHSER 68: Visiting Lahser fell to 4-6 overall with this OAA crossover defeat at Oak Park Friday. Junior forward Alan Hardy scored 21 points while senior guard Julian Sykes added 19. Brandon Allen led all scorers for Oak Park with 24 points. K’Allanta Miller added 20.
COUNTRY DAY 45, FLINT POWERS 42: The Yellow Jackets out-scored Powers 15-10 in the fourth quarter to earn a comeback victory Friday. Country Day started fast, leading 15-9 after one quarter, but Powers held a 22-21 halftime edge and a 32-30 lead entering the final eight minutes. Senior guard Darnell Brown scored 17 points for Country Day (5-2) while junior center DaShonte Riley had 15 points, 17 rebounds and eight blocked shots. Senior guard Tyler Moreland had 18 points and freshman guard Patrick Lucas-Perry added 11 for Flint (6-4).
BROTHER RICE 45, DE LA SALLE 40: Brother Rice used a 20-7 fourth-quarter scoring outburst to capture its first Catholic League Central Division victory Friday evening. The Warriors had trailed the entire game before the late rally which left them with a 7-2 overall record and a 1-2 Central Division mark. De La Salle is 6-2 and 1-2. “It was nice to get our first Central Division victory, especially against a program as strong as De La Salle’s,” said Brother Rice head coach Ed Shaffer. “We just have to keep our heads on straight and get back in the race because we play Catholic Central on Tuesday. This is a good start towards that.” Junior forward Austin Fowler, who had just four points in the first half, erupted for 15 points in a strong second half. He finished with 19 points and seven rebounds. “Our guards, Kevonte Marin and Ron Austin, did a good job of finding him and executing our offense,” said Shaffer. Center Devin Peurach finished with nine points and eight rebounds. For De La Salle, Alex Harville scored 11 points.
ROEPER 66, PLYMOUTH CHRISTIAN 53: Birmingham Roeper opened the Michigan Independent Athletic Conference (MIAC) season with this home victory over Plymouth Christian. The Roughriders (6-1 overall) had four players reach double figures, including a game-high 20-point effort from senior forward Joel Simpson. Senior guard Edward Ewell added 15 points, while sophomore guard Ryan Zinser (14) and senior forward Jake Mickley (10) also had strong games. The Zinns - Trevor and Brent - paced Plymouth Christian with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
