Green leads Trojans to win
In a battle of perennial boys basketball state powers -- one in Class A, the other in Class B -- Saginaw High proved to be the main event while Detroit Country Day played the role of the undercard in a 76-50 loss to the Trojans on Saturday at West Bloomfield High School.
Mr. Basketball candidate Draymond Green stole the show with a game-high 27 points and 13 rebounds for Class A Saginaw.
''He's a talent, and once you have a player of his caliber and the other players accept their roles and responsibilities it makes you a better basketball team,'' Saginaw coach Lou Dawkins said.
Courtney Washington had 14 points and seven rebounds for the Trojans, while Daniel West contributed 13 points with 11 assists.
Country Day's DaShonte Riley, a highly-recruited seven-foot junior, made eight points.
Lumberjacks win
Arthur Hill coach Greg McMath was just happy to have an opponent on Saturday at the Arthur Hill Pre-Holiday Classic.
It's unclear if Oak Park Academy feels the same way after falling 89-58 to the Lumberjacks. Oak Park, a Class C school which entered the game at 6-0, was filling in for Class A No. 2 (Associated Press state rankings) Detroit Finney due to a scheduling conflict.
''It was a good test for us, with them being undefeated and pretty athletic,'' said McMath.
James King led Arthur Hill with 13 points. Latreze Mushatt added 11 points. v
