Former Syracuse star Donte Greene says NBA rookie year was 'nothing like I expected'
Former Syracuse basketball player Donte Greene recently wrapped up his rookie season in the NBA with the Sacramento Kings. In an interview with SI.com's Rick Maese on Wednesday, Greene admits he does often wonder what might have been.
Greene was picked No. 25 in last year's NBA draft by the Memphis Grizzlies. He was traded twice before the season began, and started just four games for the Kings, averaging 3.8 points and 1.6 rebounds. Greene also spent a week in January in the D-League.
Greene says many of his relatives, friends and coaches encouraged him to return to SU for another year. "I had this dream in front of me, though. I always wanted to be in the NBA. I just felt that if something is right there in front of you and that's what you want, you might as well take it," Greene said. "What if I would've stayed? Where would I be?"
